  • Clarification of interior modifications for Prepared class

Hey guys and gals and thanks in advance for fielding my question. I currently prepping a 94 Subaru Legacy AWD non-turbo for RallyCross to run in the Prepared class. I read the rules and I'm not finding a few of the answers I'm looking for. What I'm trying to avoid is going too far with removing interior components and getting pushed into the modified class.

My first question is the carpet. The carpet in the car is downright disgusting. 254k miles of chicken wings, loose coins, sugar packets, bugs, you name it. Am I able to remove the carpet entirely and still compete in Prepared? Next year I plan on installing a main hoop, rear down bars and harness bar which is legal for prepared and would be removing the carpet to do that anyway which the rules hint that is fine to make way for safety improvements.

Secondly can I remove the interior sound denoting material on the floor board? I didn't see in the 2021 rule book that I couldn't do this. Finally do the radio and speakers need to remain intact? Even thought this car is being built for RallyCross my intent is to still drive it on the street but the radio doesn't work well so I'll most likely have my airpods in.

Thanks again for your support! -Cliff

Generally, if the rulebook doesn't explicitly say you CAN do it, you can NOT do it.

Good insight. I come from a Improved Touring road racing background and the SCCA GCR really spells out these types of modifications in detail. RallyCross not so much.

      Thanks!

The RXB has actively tried to keep the size of the rulebook to a minimum, so just use some common sense...and by that, I mean you need to realize that dirt is the great equalizer and it's not really necessary to stretch things to the limit.
