  • UTV exhibition class in northeast

Good afternoon all. My name is Ken and I am new to the site. I have autocrossed a handful of times in the past but I have never tried rallycross. I just bought my first utv about a month ago (Yamaha yxz1000r) and I would love to set it up to rallycross. My question to you guys is are there any regions in the northeast that currently allow utv’s to compete in an exhibition class? I know right now there is no utv class nationally but I know some regions run different local classes so I figured I would ask. Thanks in advance!

Currently UTVs as a type of vehicle are not allowed in SCCA RallyCross at all. Regional clubs can offer alternate classes, but only for approved vehicle types. In the Milwaukee region we are drafting a ruleset proposal to submit to the RXB for consideration, but it's unlikely that the class will be supported this year. I'm hopeful for next season, but we haven't gotten far enough to discuss timeframes with the RXB.

JWA is correct in the that UTVs and such are currently not allowed at regular RallyCross events. However if someone were to come up with a set of rules, there is a way to have a SxS/UTV only RallyCross event that could be approved by the RXB. This has been in place for a year or two now but no one has done this yet.

I used to be against UTVs and SxSs after seeing a couple laying on their sides after running our RallyCross course at the off road park we run at. These were stock vehicles though. After watching some online videos, it's clear that these type of vehicles can safely run through a RallyCross course. So what changes are required to make them safe and can they be written into a rule set that a local region can verify without having an expert? I'm looking forward to what Milwaukee Region comes up with.

Ah gotcha that stinks they are not allowed at all even in an exhibition class. I was excited to participate in my first rallycross this year. O well but good luck in drafting the ruleset proposal to submit to RXB for consideration! Hopefully they approve it and it becomes a class next year as I would love to tryout the sport. I assume you have plenty of help in drafting the ruleset and I am not close to Milwaukee being from New Jersey but if you need any additional help let me know.
